Legend never considered himself the best of their group, nobody in the group did. It was unsaid, but most of them agreed that either Sky or Hyrule was the strongest between their swordsmanship and magical prowess respectively. However, the Oracle Nayru once said otherwise.
In a dungeon, the Chain arrives at the final boss room, where a dehydrated corpse that later claims to be a Sheikah Monk demands to fight the greatest of the heroes, alone.
Hyrule is just far too much of a fanboy for Legend to escape this fight he thinks he will lose.

Doesn’t need to because he can still see everything crystal fucking clearly: the moment he decided to add more snark than was really necessary to his words, the way the faces of everyone around him flared briefly before falling, falling, as the words kept tumbling out of his mouth.

He was borrowing it. He was borrowing the Sword of Legend, and… what, checking in to see if it was needed? Waiting for a hero to come for it?
It wasn’t sure what to think. It wasn’t supposed to think about its wielders. But it found itself looking forward to the stories, keeping an eye out while the boy slept, memorizing as much of the information he gave it as it could.
Its job was to protect the innocent, after all.
Or: Hyrule finds a sword. The sword has opinions about this.

“I will, but this doesn’t look dangerous. It’s transmogrification, mostly, which would make sense, turning an opening into a door-”
There was a sharp click that echoed through the room as Hyrule’s hand pressed a bit of the stone and sank inwards.
The runes suddenly flared, there was a flash of light, and everything started to feel very wrong.

“Why are we still here?” one of the travelers complained later that day. “It’s been almost two weeks. Usually we’d be gone by now.”
“We haven’t accomplished our goal here,” the one with the scarf - Warriors - said with a shrug.
Wind sighed, leaning back against a tree. “What is our goal?”
Legend snorted at the question. “It’s obvious, isn’t it? We’re here to find Link.”
The others all paused, processing that, and Link froze from where he was peeking out of the scarf.
“... That… makes sense,” Four said after a moment.
“I suppose that is fairly obvious,” Sky sighed. “But surely we’d have run into him by now?”
Pressing his back against a higher fold of scarf so he wasn’t visible anymore, Link took quick, panicked breaths, keeping as quiet as possible. They were looking for him.
Or: What if Hyrule was the last one to join the Chain, and what if he wasn't in the shape of a Hylian when he did it? And what if there were a lot of tears and some hugs at the very end?

Legend doesn't have a problem with Wild's behavior. It's okay for him to be weird, after all he's been through. Legend just wishes that he didn't want to be as free as Wild was. Because it wouldn't be okay for Legend to be like that.
He had no excuses.
