When he wakes, his doctor tells him that his body is literally starting to shut down from stress. In an effort to keep his patient alive, Dr. Piciani has Virgil leave his job at Joja.

His fears of failure are sometimes too overwhelming to bear, and coupled with no urge to be productive, Shane feels that he's on the brink. It's not long before he becomes drawn to the new farmer in town, who also shows her own interest in Shane. But the new farmer has her own problems to deal with and refuses to be his new addiction. This is a story of two people trying to make sense of their loneliness, side-by-side, but not necessarily together.

Summary
After six exhausting years in Zuzu city, Eli knows they can't maintain any sort of sustainable lifestyle there. Following a series of mysterious events, they find themselves moving to their Grandfather's village of Pelican Town, where they spent every childhood summer. They gradually reconnect and meet everybody, and develop an increasingly close bond with Abigail as together they sort through a complicated upbringing and downfall. All the while, they're forced to learn how to farm and raise animals. It's a process.
