When I played Falllout 4, there were two pretty big things that bummed me out, and I wished they would've explored more; A romance with Nick Valentine, and a deeper and longer delve into the "what if Kellogg was still inside Nick somewhere?"
I was seriously disappointed when they dropped that moment, the one just after the quest with doctor Amari, right before you and Nick leave the Memory Den, and then never took it ANYWHERE :(
Well..I got so frustrated that I wrote about it, so here it is, my slightly self indulgent reader insert fallout fanfic that I try waaaayyy too hard to keep accurate to the game itself. Enjoy! Or don't?
Nick Valentine and Reader are end game in this fic, but Reader will have a few flings and a slight tension with other characters as well! If all goes to plan, this will be entirely too long.

“My Southern accent was heavier before I moved to Boston,” Nora told them, “No one takes you seriously if you have a Southern twang in law school, so I reined it in until it just became a habit, I guess.
“I grew up listening to both of them, so that’s probably why I’m more in the middle of the road. But she is also right about people thinking Southerners are stupid,” Mary Elizabeth said with a shrug.
“Yeah, and while Nora got accepted to a fancy New England law school,” Lena said with a smirk as she started to roll another cigarette, “I got drafted.”

The story follows Lena, the middle child of three sisters. Nora, the eldest, awakens in Boston, unaware that her two sisters had also been placed in a Vault-Tec cryo storage and had already been navigating life in the wasteland for five years.
Down in Mississippi, Lena is told by her younger sister, Mary Elizabeth, that Nora might still be alive. Deciding the gamble was worth it, they made the arduous trek to Boston and found more than just their sister in the remnants of the old city.

“I was wonderin’ when you were gonna show up.” Upon closer inspection, it wasn’t a cigarette in the old woman’s hand. Whatever she was smoking was rolled up in scraps of old newspaper. From the smell, it was something that Hancock would be jealous of.
“Oh, mighty fortune teller, please tell me I finally win the lottery.” He leaned against the wall next to her chair, shifting Churchbell to the side as he did so. A steady breeze wove its way through the town, causing the wind chimes of shells and bone, pre-war tech and broken glass hanging from the warped metal awning to sing with their movement.
Mama Murphy flicked the ashes of her joint with a smirk, “What’d ya’ mean finally? Kid, you already got the whole world.”
Deacon smiled off towards Charlie’s home, behind the tree. “How’s she doing?”
“Misses you somethin’ awful though she ain’t ever going to say it out loud.” She hummed, “Be better if you were in her light rather than shadow.”
“You know that ain’t my stick Murphy.”

Sole’s head thrashed from side to side as they searched the area for something, anything to aid their unconscious companion. Just as they were about to stand back up, to further their search, the distinct lack of breathing sounds caused their head to snap back to Hancock. They brought their ear to his mouth, waiting to feel the puff of air that never came. Pressing at his chest, Sole positioned themself over his mouth and began trying to resuscitate him, tears threatening to spill over onto their cheeks in their utter desperation.
“Don’t go Hancock.” They said between breaths, “Not you too.”

He was pulled up by the hand before he said back, “Plan for what?” At least his throat wasn’t clamping down around his voice box anymore.
“To find Shaun.”
It was a while later, in his old bedroom with the now chipped dark green paint, and he was watching his brother change. The blue fabric slipped down his back, blue and black mottling from frostbite marred his pale skin. He shouted and he was quick to grab him as he saw the name stretching down his spine in a neat cursive script.
“What does it say?” He asked, hands shaking as he tried to twist to see it.
“Johnathan McDonough.”
Will waved at him to take off his clothes and he did so and found the name on his own skin, gliding over the left side of his chest in a messy scrawl.
