My enemies are many. My equals are none.

In the shade of olive trees, they said Italy could never be conquered.

In the land of pharaohs and kings, they said Egypt could never be humbled.

In the realm of forest and snow, they said Russia could never be tamed.

Now they say nothing. They fear me, like a force of nature — a dealer in thunder and death!

I say: I am Napoleon. I am EMPEROR!

The long awaited reboot of my Napoleonic Gamer fic; now with a more coherent story.

He felt Saint-Just’s hands ghost across his arm. “The last eve I spent at the Duplays,” Maxime could feel the words muttered into his skin, a welcome warmth to the cold that encircled the room. “I had spotted the letter on your desk. I-” Saint-Just broke off, swallowing heavily and pressing his lips firmly against his hair in a faint imitation of a kiss. “I did not know you kept it.”

I kept all the letters you sent, Maxime would have liked to say, unabashed by the affectionate gesture. The wet rasp from across the room answered in his stead.

    Summary

Robespierre looks around at his colleagues. He pushes his spectacles up his forehead and rubs his eyes. He's more tired than anyone should possibly be after spending so much time at home in bed, and he'd like to think he's misheard — misunderstood, misinterpreted — what's been said. But he knows he hasn't.

They're trying to get rid of him!

Year II is heating up. The Committees and the Convention are rife with dissent. And some people are starting to turn their ire on one of the most prominent faces of the Revolution. Instead of killing everybody, they decide to just take care of Robespierre.

And by take care of, I mean…

See that he has someone at home who'll make sure he eats well, gets enough rest and some gentle exercise, takes a proper break from work, and really recovers from the stress of politics.

Incidentally, Camille is hosting a young man from Blérancourt, who's been stymied in his efforts to get elected and is eager to help the Revolution however he can…

THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL TRANSLATION OF A NOVEL BY STANISŁAWA PRZYBYSZEWSKA.
The translator treats it as a fan project and makes no money off it.
The story presents the complicated relationship between Robespierre, Camille Desmoulins, Danton and some other characters. It takes place a few days before the execution of the Dantonists. Please read about the original author and the book itself in some more reputable source than this description ;)

    Justice, the guillotine.

That was ironic. Maximilien was always on the right side of justice. Everything he did: every law he voted for; every trial, no matter how unfair it seemed to the outside eye; every head he condemned, he had done it in the name of stability, in the name of the nation.

The guillotine was the true executive power of the Committee of Public Safety, no matter what any of his dear, fellow deputies liked to believe. Today, they would finally see that for themselves.

"The moonlight now shone upon the whole chamber and Antoine could distinctly see the demonic aspects of Maxime’s condition… and yet, he did not fear him. Nothing about the vampyre was in the least daunting to Saint-Just: not the sharp canine fangs nor the blood - his own blood - that stained his skin and clothes or the devilish glisten of his crimson eyes"

    Summary

Saint-Just holds the cold, trembling hand tight as he wends through every dark alley and side street he can find. The route is twice as long as it would be if they went along main streets, but it’ll be far less alarming for a man who’s just stepped out of the Place de la Révolution 1794 — as Saint-Just well knows from experience.

He punches in the code — nothing to be done about that; twentieth and twenty-first century living has made him soft, but not decadent enough to have a doorman. The old building had a physical key for a long time, but Saint-Just upgraded the security a couple decades ago. Not for himself as much as for the hundreds of tenants whose standards are a bit more recent than the Enlightenment.

So the revolutionary painter David was so devastated about not being able to die to save Robespierre & friends that he spent the rest of his life pouring all his energy into painting them, an act of devotion so intense that it created a kind of magic...

"You know we wouldn't ask if it weren't for the good of the Republic."

    Oh.

    Fuck.

    The good of the Republic.

This is, as Robespierre must know, exactly the right thing to say.

Louis Antoine Léon de Saint-Just has never — not once — doubted that he would give himself body and soul to the Republic.

He just never imagined that would mean giving himself to Camille Desmoulins.

As 1793 comes to a close, journalist Camille Desmoulins' critiques begin to target the current policies of the revolutionary government. The writings of this once-stalwart supporter of the Republic are popular, and he cannot easily be silenced. What is to be done about this conflict before it grows into a conflagration that consumes them all?

Robespierre and his allies have An Idea.

a.k.a. The story in which Saint-Just is absolutely — infuriatingly — resolved to do his duty, but also, the poor author of filthy Organt is nervous.

    *NSFW
Louis Antoine Saint-Just is not attracted to Maximilien Robespierre. He isn’t, he just admires him greatly. He might also have a fixation on the man’s calves, but who wouldn’t? He might also very secretly, want to push Maxime down on to the table and tear his clothing apart with his teeth and fuck him till he can’t walk.
    See? It’s all very fraternal.

“Perfectly adequate,” he remarked with mock gravity. “Of course, the fact that there is another monarchy to be toppled does not give you much credit, but then, it is hardly your personal failing.”
