Now bring in the fact the soon-to-be king of Camelot, Arthur Pendragon, has just found out about this and things get messy. Let's see how long Merlin can keep this hobby quiet before everyone else he knows finds about it.

Now living in modern day England, in a place called Eastbrook, the new reformed name for Albion, the place was thriving with holiday makers.
Merlin’s best friend and part time lover, Molly Preston, was the only one who knew his true identity. Well, that’s what he thought anyway. Molly introducers him to a friend called Valla. But there is something about him that Merlin can’t quite comprehend. It was as if he knew him before. Then Vala tells Merlin some news about Arthur Pendragon, which shocks him to the core. Is Molly and Valla really who they say they are? The result, anyway, meant that Merlin must regain his magical powers quickly, if he is to help Arthur return for good. But one person stands in his way…an evil resurgent sorcerer called Mordred.

He leaned back, finishing the wine in his cup as he watched everyone stare at him. "What?" Merlin asked with a shrug. "You wanted me to keep it interesting." -

Summary
Merlin turned and let the first and only tear drop. No man is worth your tears. Not even the one he loved.
“How can you say that though?” Mordred asked, risking his neck for Merlin’s feelings. “I mean, I have heard the stories. You were born of magic, yes?”
“Yes, and because of that my mother died. And magic too drove Morgana mad. It has taken more from me than it has given.” Arthur removed his chainmail and set it in a pile. “Magic is not kind. It will give only for a price. It thinks only of itself.”
OR while out on a camping trip with the knights, it’s revealed how they truly feel about magic. Merlin and Mordred are left in the woods fearing the worst of what their friends, and more importantly Merlin’s lover, the King of Camelot, will do about it.

“You know,” the prince started, and Merlin grunted in frustration, turning away. Princes were always the same, “I don’t appreciate you talking about my father like that.”
Merlin stopped and narrowed his eyes, before slowly looking back at the prince. He studied the prince's face intently.
“And who, exactly, would your father be?” he asked, fury crackling through the calm sounding words. He was not in the mood to be played with by a prince.
“Uther Pendragon,” the prince said calmly.
Merlin’s tail lashed so hard against the rock next to him a large piece of it chipped off, rocketing through the air and over the edge of the mountain.

Merlin was cursed to be a dragon, which was fine. It was fine, he was fine, he was happy, thank you very much. Everything was great.
Except for all these knights and princes that kept bothering him. That, that was not fine. It was annoying. It definitely wasn't the only human interaction he ever got, he was fine.
So if this odd group of knights and their king would leave, that would be wonderful.
