Summary
Post fall, Will has been distant but amicable enough, and Hannibal believes he just needs time to settle. Hannibal is smitten, obviously, and eager to start a new life with Will. Everything seems to be going well, with the exception of the last roadblock of Will remaining distant and closed off. Still, they spend a lot of time together, and Hannibal truly believes Will feels affection for him, and especially after their first kill together and Will’s choice to stay with him, Hannibal feels emboldened by all this to actually express his affection for Will in more overt, explicit ways.
He tells Will he loves him. It doesn't go as planned.

A man walks up to Will Graham's door at six fifteen a.m. one morning and gives him a letter.
Soon he's in captivity and used as a sperm donor for Dr. Hannibal Lecter, a snake shifter nearing the end of his fertile cycle.
Hannibal is 'no longer in need of his services' when it's done and sends him home, but fate has its own ideas and soon they're stuck together fighting feelings they're unsure aren't caused by the eggs growing inside Hannibal.
It's only going to be a few months and then he'll never have to see him again.

For all Hannibal talks about not having secrets between them anymore, no boundaries, the dam finally breaks and all the questions he has ever had spring forth and demand release. The words blurt out of his mouth before he can think them through.

Now that the Red Dragon has been defeated, it's Will's turn to prove his love and undying devotion to Hannibal. But of course, Hannibal isn't so easily appeased.

This story follows Will and Hannibal's journey towards a genuine and nurturing relationship though exploring mutually caused hurt, doubts about loyalty and love, and working though heartbreak and trauma together.
