Summary
He turns his gaze back to Merlin, face tight as if braced for battle. “What did she do to you?” He asks.
Of course he does.
And Merlin tells him. He doesn’t want to, but he doesn’t try to resist either. He submits to the power within him, urging him to go ahead, ruin all that he holds dear with a simple truth.
“She gave me a truth potion.”
Or: Merlin is under a truth spell, but Arthur lets him keep his secrets.

Summary
Merlin is acting weird, and it's up to the Once and Future King to find out why. With a little help from the knights and Gwen, because lord knows he can't do it on his own. Spoilers for 1x10 and minor spoilers for 4x06. Bit OOC for Arthur and Merlin, but I guess it depends on how you view their relationship. This is uh, way longer than I intended it to be so...whoops.

Summary
"I couldn’t let him die of a wound caused by my kin,” Balinor explained, each word expressed deliberately, as if each syllable he said was carefully thought out, “I couldn’t let someone you clearly were so… fond of…” he seemed to trail off.
Merlin caught up to what his father was implying and his eyes went wide, “Fond? Oh, no, you’ve misunderstood– you’ve got– you’ve figured it wrong!” Merlin spoke fast, tripping over his own words, awkward laugh sounding forced, “Me– me and Arthur? Arthur? That’s laughable! That’s–” he shook his head. Arthur, the prat? The clotpole, the turnip-cabbage-vegetable, the dollophead? Sure, he may be the other side of his coin, but Merlin was much shinier, dammit! “I’m much shinier!”
“You’re much…” Balinor (his father, he reminded himself) shot him a quizzical look, “...shinier?”

Summary
“...I think there’s something wrong with me,” he whispers. “I have an…affliction.”
Merlin’s eyebrows raise, mouth opening and closing all at once. “You—you have an affliction? Have you…been to see Gaius lately?”-
Arthur's turned up in Ealdor, prepared to help the village fight off Kanen and his men, much to Merlin's delight. But there's something about an excursion away from Camelot, away from his knights and guards and Uther, that loosens his tongue around Merlin that first night.

Summary
Merlin turned and let the first and only tear drop. No man is worth your tears. Not even the one he loved.
“How can you say that though?” Mordred asked, risking his neck for Merlin’s feelings. “I mean, I have heard the stories. You were born of magic, yes?”
“Yes, and because of that my mother died. And magic too drove Morgana mad. It has taken more from me than it has given.” Arthur removed his chainmail and set it in a pile. “Magic is not kind. It will give only for a price. It thinks only of itself.”
OR while out on a camping trip with the knights, it’s revealed how they truly feel about magic. Merlin and Mordred are left in the woods fearing the worst of what their friends, and more importantly Merlin’s lover, the King of Camelot, will do about it.

Summary
She expects it to be Alaric asking for extra sugar again or Alice, her next-door neighbor, asking her for help with one of her recipes. Maybe even Beatrice – who has always disliked her for some reason – to come down and complain about something or other she has done.
Whatever the case, she was certainly not expecting to see her son standing outside, his head bowed, rain pelting down on top of him.
OR:
After Balinor's death, Merlin visits his mother.
