“Like artwork.” She says that last part thoughtlessly, like it’s not something embarrassingly, tooth-rottingly sweet to say to someone you’ve got strung up against a headboard, but before either of them get too long to think about it, something else catches her eye. Her breath hitches, and she raises a hand, reaching for the freshest scar in Verge’s collection: a neat circle of slightly paler flesh, just below their ribcage, where the plasma gun burnt a hole right through them. “That’s the mark from…”
She trails off there. Verge gives her a second, just in case she intends on continuing, but she just closes her mouth and leaves Verge to respond, watching the way her hand hovers over it. “Uh-huh. You can touch all you want.”
(There's this moment in episode 10 where Deidre, who sounds scared out of her fucking mind, thinks the world is ending and goes to Verge's motel room to try and sleep with them. I really liked that idea, so I made it happen later down the timeline! Kinktober, day 30: restraints)

Leif recoils the moment their fingers brush his face, jolting in an effort to pull back from them. “Oh, shit, you’re gonna-” he blurts out, but his breath catches in his throat. He swallows hard. “Oh.”
“Make you a little less pretty?” they supply. With the way he’s arranged, when they put their weight onto their other arm and grab him by the jaw, he can’t pull away fast enough without running the risk of injuring himself. They hum, pleased. “Sure am. Perks of the job. What, are you scared?”

She doesn’t tend to hold onto things, and she isn’t exactly the nostalgic type, but words, even the ones she can’t use, are a particular vice of hers, and she feels no need to break the habit anytime soon. She likes to go through some of them and listen from time to time, just to hear the voices of their senders. They keep her company when she can’t sleep on long flights, or they remind her that she doesn’t need to be lonely, because people out there are thinking of her.
Others, though. Others only see the light of day when she’s a different kind of lonely.

Last time he found her out here, he confided in her that sometimes, he has dreams where he would see smoke through the diner window and rush outside to greet her, only to find his ex-wife there in her place, ready to tear him to a million tiny little pieces. Ava pointed out that she was equally as likely to degrade him, and he said that yeah, of course he knew that, but at least he sort of liked her. That’s why she feels so comfortable pressing a few of Caspar’s buttons, shattered as he may be: she knows that he’s there for her, that he knows what he’s in for, and that he likes her. That’s why they’re allowed to play this cat and mouse game of theirs.
