Working with a cop wasn’t in her plans, just like dying hadn’t been. So why not just roll with what fate handed her?
“—By the end of the day,” he agreed, extending his hand to seal the deal.
“—Deal,” V concluded, shaking River’s hand.
His hand was large, his grip firm, and for a brief moment, the mercenary wondered how that roughness would feel elsewhere—purely to provoke the engram. Partly, the truth was that the detective was definitely her type, and if it weren’t for the situation and the badge, she would undoubtedly be much less reserved after three shots of whiskey."

Vanja almost choked on her drink. Why was she freaking out? That was a normal request! Indirectly swapping saliva with one's crush was totally normal and not freak out material! And yet, Vanja couldn't help it when her heart rate jumped at the mere thought of it. She passed the still open bottle, fingers brushing against Panam's as she took it from her--draining all remaining liquid in a single swig.
Vanja almost melted.

V feels as if she has spent the first three years of her adult life trying to get into the corp's web, and the last three years trying to get the hell out.

I'd always kept my emotional defenses tighter than the Blackwall, and that night in Konpeki Plaza had just reinforced my belief that I was doomed to get anyone that got close to me killed. And to top it all off, my brain was slowly getting written over by a narcissistic rockerboy whose only source of entertainment was giving me shit. So even if somehow there was sincerity behind Viktor's flirtatious banter, it would be nothing but cruelty to let someone in now when I was destined to slowly fade away.

Samuel ‘V’ Hayden, just your average choom, had a nice start out in Brooklyn, that was until a certain Netrunner friend of his caught some unwanted attention, had his hometown burnt to the ground, with his childhood friend gone without a trace. Believing Songbird to be dead, ‘V’ travels all the way to Night City with what little savings he had left from his parents (before the whole town got scorched by Netwatch) and meets a certain Jackie Welles on a gig for his dear friend Pepe… oh where things will go from here, I wonder…
(So begins my impact on AO3, again as the tags state, don’t expect much, I’m not the best writer out there by a landslide, and I often loose focus on things easily, If you want more feel free to leave some kudos just so I know people care about this heap of fire-)

V's tragic fall from grace after Konpeki Plaza is nothing but a desperate struggle to grasp anything. Anything that makes her feel something inside that numbed heart of hers, anything that distracts herself from her own doom.

Summary
This one-shot is a direct sequel of my Cyberpunk 2077 x Arcane fanfic, "even in these chains you can't break me", to celebrate V's birthday! I really like that story, I wanted to get back to it a little. I used Phantom Liberty as inspiration too :) Enjoy !
If you haven't read the first part of the serie, I highly recommend so, although this one-shot could arguably stand on his own.

V just wants to get rid of him, but all Johnny does is talk. It’s not like V has a choice except to hear him out, so she does. She learns more about him than she ever thought she’d learn, and she realizes he’s not actually that bad of a guy. They set aside their differences and learn to rely on each other.
At the end, they don’t know how they ever hated each other, but they wish they still did so this wasn’t so hard.
