When Rugan and Olly arrived at the Zhentarim hideout, contrary to Rugan's hopes, Zarys refused to forgive them for the loss of the cargo. Zarys couldn't believe that the chest had been stolen by the adventurers who had appeared so suddenly and so conveniently. The gang grabbed both men, tied Rugan to a chair, and forced him to watch as Olly was tortured.
Olly didn't betray Rugan's secret. And the gang stopped torturing him only when they mistakenly assumed that he had kicked the bucket.
Rugan, on the other hand, shifted the blame onto Olly very quickly.
