Light’s lies are intricate, a perfectly spun web of wickedness and deception that cannot be figured out unless you know better. Maybe it’s the fact that L knows he’s the only one who can see behind the curtain, perhaps it makes him feel privileged or understood in some neanderthal way. Perhaps he just loves that Light would lie about the color of the sky, he’s so relentless with his falsified truths that it’s fascinating. They both know who Light is, but only L can speak the truth aloud. But Light lets him know that he’s not wrong because his eyes always sparkle with amusement, they confirm each and every one of L’s suspicions. Whether this is on purpose or not L suspects the latter, but it is still alluring that he has his own perfect match.
L loves Light's lies, they make for a perfect indulgence

A canon-divergence AU beginning at the point where Misa is taken into custody as the second Kira and forfeits her Death Note. Light wants to turn himself in, but Rem has decided that Light, and the Death Note, are too dangerous for Misa. Rem forces Light to cut ties with her, hoping she can have a normal life again.
Light breaks up with Misa and continues operating as Kira, leaving Misa alone in L's custody. L, suspecting that Misa might be more powerful than she appears, decides to try to take advantage of Light’s abandonment and befriend Misa, hoping that if he earns her trust, she might turn on Light and help L bring Kira down.

Throughout many years and having come across a myriad of other people- be they good, bad, or any shade of morally grey- L’s come to know that there are, often small, defining traits that makeup who exactly someone is. More often than not, those unconscious traits could even be used to separate one from the world.
After working together for so long, even being chained together for some time, it’s only natural that he’s picked up on some of those small defining traits that make up who Light Yagami is.
The traits that made Light up- were painfully human.
And that humanity was painfully beautiful.

Light decides to trust L when he admits that he too suspects himself of being Kira and asks L for help in preventing him from becoming Kira again. L agrees, mostly because he thinks this is part of the game the two of them are playing. A game that is getting more and more complicated by the minute since chaining himself to Light has forced L to face the fact that he is attracted to his main suspect. And maybe his feelings run deeper still… With L and Light closing in on the person acting as Kira at Yotsuba will Light's admission change anything? Or are they destined to once again become enemies?
