    Summary

Odysseus sighed heavily as his raft floated closer to Ithaca. He was so close. He had gone through Hell to get here, and he wasn’t going to let anything take him away from it.

His raft rocked a little, and Odysseus picked up his knife in a flash. Was it a creature? Just water? He wasn’t going to take any chances.

Then a head poked out of the water a few feet away from the raft.

    Or,

An under appreciated god chats with Odysseus about morals and death.

Odysseus awakes after the mutiny to the smell of smoke.
There were things the crew didn't need to know, things Odysseus would keep to himself, for their safety, for his. It was wisdom, he told himself.
    Until it wasn't.

    Summary

Before the slaughter, he had watched his boy from the shadows of his own home, from behind the mask of a beggar, cloaked in silence.
Telemachus walked the palace Odysseus had built like it was a battlefield.
Not with a sword, no—not yet—but with the quiet watchfulness of a soldier expecting ambush at every turn. The boy's shoulders were too tense for his age, his gaze too practiced in disappointment. There was no sound of his boyish laughter in the halls, only measured steps, sharp silences, and the rot of overstayed guests.

    Summary

“My friend! Message has arrived from Troy! The war has ended and the fleets are on their way!”

Odysseus felt his whole body freeze as he heard those words he had prayed for for so long. He could barely belive it...

    His wife was coming home…

    Or:
Odysseus, in this attempt at avoiding leaving his family alone to go to war, composes a vaguely mythologically accurate plan to evade the draft. But his failure poses even greater consequences than he could have ever imagined when he realises a certain someone has taken up his sword in his absence…

    Summary

She trails her fingers over his arms, soothing skin that has known too much salt and sun. Then down to his chest, over the ribs that strained with hunger in foreign lands, down further, until she reaches the scar on his thigh.

    She lingers there.

Her thumb brushes the raised seam of it, the mark left behind by a boy too eager for the hunt, a boy on the cusp of legend. He remembers the first time she touched it, years ago—how she'd laughed at the foolishness of joining the hunt for the boar, at the recklessness that had nearly cost him his life before someone else’s war took him from her instead, before years upon years were lost to the sea, to gods and monsters, to the slow erosion of himself.

Now, she says nothing, only traces the line of it with deliberate familiarity. The water ripples with her movements, lapping against his skin, the warmth a contrast to the cool press of her fingers.

He exhales. Catches her hand, steady and knowing.

“I would say I could pick you out of a thousand men,” she murmurs, still eyeing the old wound, “but I imagine half the world could do the same by now.”

    An Epilogue.

“I know the man I married,” she says. “Clever, cunning, and sharp as the edge of a warrior’s blade. A man who outsmarts gods and kings and tries to bend fate to his will.”

"Doesn’t it bother you," Odysseus asks, voice quiet, "that your husband is not a good man?" He turns his face away, jaw tight. “I mean—” his voice drops lower, rough with shame. “What kind of man slaughters unarmed men in his own hall? Leaves his crew to die across the sea? Survives while the rest—”

“The kind of man who comes home,” Penelope interrupts.

      “And that's enough?”

She leans in, her breath warm against his skin. “Odysseus, it's everything.”

For a long moment, he says nothing. He only looks at her, still searching her face, longing for the ease with which he used to read her.

“You would take me, cunning and clever, over good?” His voice is softer now.

Penelope looks at him, something fierce and unwavering in her eyes. “I would take you as you are. However you are—because I love you.”

He reaches for her hand, fingers curling around hers, giving voice to the one unshakable truth in all his years of wandering.

“My wife, my home, my heart,” he murmurs, pressing a kiss to her knuckles, “I am yours.”

1000000/10, would read again. Worshipful sex, insightful self reflection, Penelope and Ody are so in love. Odysseus would burn the world down for his wife, but he’s starting with that damn shroud.

    Summary

“That won’t be an issue. We’ll cut him down into tiny pieces, throw him down in the deep below.” He smirks, “when the crown wonders where the prince is,” he throws his arms out to the sides, “only the ocean and I will know!” The suitors cheer again, a few of them laughing. Odysseus’ blood boils in his veins. They’re laughing and celebrating. Antinous just threatened to torture and dismember his son before throwing him into the ocean, and these men are excited about it.

The commotion dies down a bit, and Antinous speaks again. “And when the deed is done, the queen will have no one to stop us from breaking her bedroom door,” Odysseus' blood goes from boiling to ice cold, his breath catching in his throat. “Stop us from taking her love and more!” Odysseus’ limbs stiffen, his pulse growing even faster as he stares. There’s a look of unhinged, unbridled lust in Antinous’ eyes. They’re glazed over, and horror runs up Odysseus’ spine as he realizes the man is probably picturing what he is describing, indulging in the thought of assaulting his wife, chest heaving with heavy breaths.

“How may I address you, wise and powerful spirit?”

Wise? Powerful? Odysseus was trapped on an island for seven years and then he died. There aren’t a lot of beings less wise and powerful than he is. “There’s no need for any of that,” he sighs. “Just call me…” He bites his lip, remembering the last alias he used, before everything went wrong. “Nobody.”

“Nobody,” the strangely familiar boy repeats, smiling at what he perceives to be a joke. Odysseus wishes he could laugh with him. “Alright. It is good to meet you, Nobody.” He bows, low. “My name is Telemachus.”
