It all happens so quickly, that in his state of shock John doesn’t have the presence of mind to follow the paramedics as they lift his friend’s limp body onto a gurney. Instead, He watches them wheel him away. Suddenly, the hands reaching out to steady him are intolerable. He waves them away.
He reaches to pull his mobile from his pocket and dials the only number he can think to.
It is answered on the first ring, the drawling voice says, “Dr. Watson.”
John stares at the puddle of blood on the pavement and swallows bile.
“It’s Sher… He….” And John’s voice can’t seem to push its way past the lump in his throat.
“Where are you?” Mycroft asks, his voice all cool professionalism with an edge of panic. John never calls him, wouldn’t call him after last night’s dressing down.
John makes a pitiable attempt to clear his throat and can only manage to say, “Bart’s”
“Don’t move. I’m on my way.”
John slips the phone back into his pocket, looks back at the pool of cooling blood, and heaves into the gutter. -

Sherlock hummed, "That can't be comfortable." He nodded his head towards the eyepatch covering half of William's face.
Sherlock had noticed that William literally never took it off, and by never, he meant never. He only took it off in the shower when he was alone—after all, how would Sherlock see him when he bathed? It's not like... Sherlock wanted to... bathe with him or anything.
But in general, he kept it on when they ate, when they drank, even when they went to bed.
And he was right. Having that fabric suffocate your eye all day is by no means comfortable.
"It is," he lied through his teeth, and Sherlock picked up on it.
The detective went back to his newspaper, and the silence between them returned, only broken by Sherlock's voice when he said, "You can take it off, love." His words were as soft and gentle as ever.
