Stolas, despite his new roomates and co-workers, has never felt more alone than in the last two months.
It's getting to him. The hatred all of impkind, minus three, feels towards him. He's tried to ignore it all. The boos and jeers that follow him like shadows. The cheers that erupt whenever he so much as stumbles while out in public.
Ignoring it is not working.
His own mind is his worst enemy. The depression gnaws at him, now that he doesn't have the pills to keep it at bay. His long list of failures is a thicket of weeds, their grip tight around his neck. He can only go without air for so long before he chokes.

Stolas’s hand swung back over the side of the table, groping blindly until he found a bottle neck that he moved it to his beak, guzzling down a third of the bottle at once, in a way that made Blitzø recoil a bit, unable to help but feel like he’d seen this before.
‘Al-right, c’mon birdy,’ Blitzø grabbed the bottle from Stolas’s hand and set it back on the coffee table with decisive clink. ‘You’ve had enough Sinmas cheer for one night. Let’s get you some water and—’
‘Blitzø,’ Stolas interrupted him, his voice suddenly heavy. ‘Are wishes part of Sinmas?’
‘Uh, not really what Sinsmas is about, but what were you thinking of?’
‘I don’t know. Sometimes, I think I’d like to simply… not.’ -

Summary
The first time Blitzø told Stolas he loved him, it was part of a roleplay; a mockery of dreams he’d had about hearing those words. It stopped him short, watching Blitzø slip into a fantasy he thought Stolas wanted. Seeing the way he threw the phrase out so easily, because it wasn’t real.
Blitzø wanted to rehabilitate the words by proving their meaning to Stolas, but the owl preferred to run away from stress. So, they worked on it, with Blitzø doing his best to respect Stolas’ pace and visibly swallowing the phrase back down over and over, waiting for Stolas to be ready.
Until they slipped out.

Blitzø's mind creates an entire fucking montage of their week in the office. Sinners bursting in through the door unannounced, the phone ringing at random, Moxxie bursting into his rendition of some song from a musical because Millie misquoted it, Loona shouting at them all to shut up. It was a miracle they weren't all losing their hearing.
"Shit, Stols." Blitzø winces. "Didn't realize how miserable it probably is for you around the office."
or: Stolas manages the side effects of his antidepressants, and Blitzø is too good of a kinda-boyfriend to let him suffer alone.

For all that Stolas probably craved privacy on a daily basis, it was the last thing Blitzø was willing to offer him. "C'mon. Tell me what's up, and we'll figure something out. Don't even have to give me all the details, just enough so I know what you need."
Stolas seemed to consider the offer for a long moment as he toyed with the coat in his hands, rubbing the collar between his talons and inhaling deeply. It took a long time before he finally spoke, his voice so quiet that Blitzø had to strain to hear.
"It is my... heat cycle. I simply need to... tend to some urges. It should only last three or four days, though I am unsure whether the irregularity of my cycle will change that timeframe."
OR: Stolas experiences his first heat in years, and Blitzø helps him through it.
