Annabeth’s eyes were solely on Penelope. She was unblinking as a statue. “You never told me you liked other women.” She didn’t sound angry but she did sound upset.
Penelope raised an eyebrow. “I don’t really talk about it.”
It was easier to talk about demi-god stuff to her Mom than it was to talk about her views on romance. Men were handsome and, sometimes, even pretty. Women were beautiful and, sometimes, pretty. A person being really attractive didn’t mean Penelope inherently wanted to date someone though.
“I thought you liked men.” A few seconds passed, “Luke was-“
Penelope interrupted her. “Luke knew I was angry and he never tried to make me something less.”
Annabeth scowled, her expression darkening. “Luke would have set you on fire just to keep himself warm.”
The words were cutting. It always shocked Penelope how Annabeth could be so stupidly loyal to Luke - despite all the things he had done to her - and, at other times, be so unforgiving toward him.
“He would have let you walked off an edge instead of holding you back when-“
Penelope interrupted her. “Luke was handsome and he was angry when I was angry and he was there when I had lost my mom.”

Percy had always hated his birthday. As a kid, his mom was typically working on his birthday and Smelly Gabe definitely wasn’t going to do anything for it. That meant he usually spent it alone. He never had a cake, a party, or many gifts. His mom would usually get him some candy from her store and try to get him something with whatever money she could spare. But it was never a happy day for Percy. It was more a reminder of how lonely he felt.
Every year, he was always surprised to find he survived. As a kid, he always assumed that Gabe would kill him sooner or later. As he got a little older, he assumed he would do something to himself. Then there was the prophecy, of course. Overall, Percy was never very excited about his birthday.

Percy and Annabeth broke up right before entering Tartarus (specifically after like chapter three in Mark of Athena or something) Annabeth was too afraid that if they were together that they would put each other in even more danger. They both know that they can't live without each other but refuse to give in. This story takes place right after Tartarus and the end of BoO. Though instead of being flung all the way back to camp, they have to fly all the way back to camp the normal way. And also Leo does not "die" like in the end of BoO. There is a lot of angst and it is a soft fic so I am sorry to all of you smut lovers.

To make matters worse, the fates have ordered them and the gods to read books, about his thoughts or else they won’t return to their timeline. Of course he’s furious, but, as the books progress and he sees the gods finally owning up to their own mistakes, he starts to wonder if there might be another reason as to why they were sent back in time, other than to embarrass him in front of his friends and family.
It’s another reading the books fic! I know it’s been done before, but if you’re like me and love this kind of stuff, then I guess you won’t care and eat it up as much as I do.
