When the Bergans find them because of a party exactly twenty years after their escape, Branch is automatically suspicious of the little information he can get from the King. Because surely, Poppy didn't mean to cause this. But at what point does incompetence become malice?

Young children of all classes, the problem was the alpha category. They feared with how little alpha adults there were when they grew up no one would be able to reign them in ....

He begins to angrily walk off before he freezes, the encounter washing over him. Oh sweet Comp what the heck had he just done. Turning around, John slowly looks back up at their pod, he could just barely make out a flash of Purple crashing out of it, followed not long after by a crazed streak of Yellow, both scampering higher up into the tree. Oh, so they stormed out together, that’s good, that they're not alone. He’s glad for once that they never follow his lead, afterall, this would be the worst time for his brothers to start taking after him.
Essentially, another John Dory came back story, where John didn't know the others left! Because I don't think he did. I don't know why I'm obsessed with this one Troll, but I am. Also, I am sprinkling in headcanons because I can, tell me yours and we can talk about it.

Summary
It's very hard for people to overcome first impressions. Not impossible, but difficult. When the first impression isn't the one you expected it to be, sometimes the false impression overwrites - but when the first impression is too blunt, too bold, too brutal to ignore? Well, that changes how you think of something. Or, in this case, someone.
Alternatively, my take on how Trolls: Band Together might have gone differently with a few tripped triggers and a Poppy more aware of just how badly Branch had been wronged, because she always did just want him to be happy.

Floyd was nine when his eldest brother was taken by Chef, just the week before Trollstice. Out of nowhere. After a big argument that ended Brozone. He sat outside their pod to cool down, and never returned. Floyd and his brothers heard his scream as he was taken, but by the time they'd rushed outside, all that was left was their brother's goggles, hanging by a thread on a tiny branch. Only one other was caught and taken that night.
Floyd was ten when the tunnels were finished and everyone escaped Bergen Town. He and his brothers were safe. Except for John Dory; lost just a year before he could have been free.
Floyd is eleven when a thin, injured gray and white troll stumbles into the newly constructed Troll Village, confused and disoriented. He falls unconscious, silencing the 1 year anniversary party that had turned to watch him enter. He's naked, and the only thing he's carrying is a heavily gravid belly.
