Nick made sure his backpack was sealed and the hood of his jumper secured over his head before he departed the bus. He was the only one getting off at this stop and he paused under the bus stop's roof as the bus left him there. He’d hoped he would see something, anything, to jog his memory, but nothing called out to him. He was only six the last time he’d been anywhere in the area. He barely remembered what the house looked like, let alone the surrounding area. He could remember the kitchen most of all, the time spent baking his with Mum, standing in the little kitchen, an apron tied around his waist. They were probably his favorite memories of being here, the little pleasant ones he had.
(Or Nick grows up with his Dad in Paris and when he gets kicked out, he runs away to Kent to find his mum and ends up finding Charlie along the way)

Charlie was very aware of the statistic when it came to men in domestic violence situations. Despite the suspected average of 1 out of 7 men having been in some type of domestic abuse situation, they were far less likely to report it. Concerns about being taken seriously, the fear of judgment, lack of resources, and the general stigma surrounding domestic violence made it difficult for anyone, let alone LGBTQ+ individuals, who had to compound that along with the queer stigma too.
So when a tall, well built young man walked into the Centre late one evening, looking nervous and ready to bolt, Charlie was up and walking over to greet him before anyone else even looked his way. The man looked a bit concerned when Charlie came over, but he stood a very respectable distance from him, far enough away not to crowd him but close enough that Charlie didn’t have to raise his voice to talk to him.
“Hi,” Charlie said simply. “My name is Charlie Spring, how can I assist you this evening?”

“Eh heh.” Charlie spoke as he was beginning to process the situation they had found themselves in. Truly, this would only happen to them.
“Di-did I do that?” Nick asked, still in shock.
Charlie gave him an incredulous look. “No, Nick, it was Tao who was sucking on my neck last night. Of course you did it!” He hissed through clenched teeth, watching as Nick’s face flushed scarlet at Charlie’s bluntness.
