Reece hated dogs. Never could understand the appeal of some scruffy, hairy, smelly thing that demanded all of your attention, made you clean up after them and could ruin your life with their teeth if you so much as stepped on their paw wrong. There were, he was sure, about a dozen good things about them that potentially balanced the scales enough to matter but he didn’t care. Balance wasn’t enough. He didn’t like them, didn’t want them around no matter how good the “companionship” might do him. He hated dogs and that was that as far as he was concerned.

Reece-that-isn’t-Reece (who is probably an angel) has just sat there staring at him the entire time, offering no help which is pretty much ridiculous for someone (or something) that made it clear they didn’t want to be here. He assumes eventually though that it’s using about every ounce of its infinite energy to just keep Reece’s already failing body in one singular piece and not in about a billion atoms scattered all over the house.
Which is very kind of it if true, so Steve really holds onto that to make himself feel a bit better.
