Scaramouche wants to burn his ears off.

“So what, you have a list of arguments?”
She hands him a card.
“Even better. I picked the florist.”
He hesitates: the golden embroideries at the corners of the paper are familiar, as well as the name and the single rose on top of it.
“Did you choose him just because of me?”
“Well, everything is always top-notch when it comes to your taste, isn’t it?”
Scaramouche closes his fist, slowly crushing the card.
“I hope you’re ready to pay, Yelan. I am not cheap.”

Scaramouche knows this, knows it a little too well, in fact. Three times he’s been betrayed, struck down as if he is a worthless thing (he’s not, he swears he’s not). Even his own mother has plans to discard him, arranging a marriage between him and the head of Duchy of Viatrix.
He hopes that the North will be far kinder to him than the East. His heart can only take so much before it gives out.
