So, here was the key thing: when you create an illusion... it's just an illusion. Without consistency, without matter, without life, it did not replace a person, it was not an incarnation, a metamorphosis or a teleportation.
So, when Loki Prince of Asgard used an illusion to avoid being seen until he passed out, he was still exactly where his wounds had caused him to fall, unable to get up because the pain, the wounds and the exhaustion from using his magic prevented him from moving.
SO, he was spotted and taken prisoner.
And it was safe to say that it was common knowledge that the Jotun did not spare their prisoners, especially when they were royalty and descendants of a certain hated one-eyed AND brother of an annoying and arrogant blonde "little princess".
Odin was going to regret leaving his second son behind without paying attention, Laufey was going to make sure of that.

Summary
September 3018, war is brewing (or already arrived, as some would say), and Grima is up to his usual tricks and nonsense, including living rent-free in Eomer's brain. Orcs are prowling, wargs are making mischief, treason is in the air, and the harvest is around the corner. In the midst of all the soothing, spying, oath-breaking, family drama, and invasive questions about what it means to lead in uncertain times, Grima realises that the master he's betrayed everyone for has turned on Sauron himself making our little snake a great deal more concerned about everything the future holds and willing to perhaps do a little double-agent action provided there's some guarantees in place for his future safety. Eomer hates skullduggery but, when dealing with Grima one must learn to speak in the language Grima understands best: blackmail, manipulation, and Politicks.
Alternate universe - but I wouldn't call this a redemption fic since Grima doesn't really go through ringer on that.

In this version of events, our Loki was pruned before ever meeting Mobius, ending up in the Void. It wasn’t long before Sylvie found her way there, and with his help, they manage to reach He Who Remains and kill him. But when the timelines begin to die anyway, Loki destroys the TVA, and gives his life over to the world tree.
Now he’s a lonely god at the end of time, Sylvie being the only one who visits occasionally. Until he meets a more persistent Mobius variant, who might spell an and to his solitude.
