The headmaster had forbidden John from attacking the safe house and its members. Alone with his dark thoughts, John's hands can't stop itching. The need to fight, to break, to hurt is too much for him to handle. He knows he is a ticking bomb, and before he truly explodes and takes everything and everyone down with him, he needs to find a way to let out some steam, to lessen his anger a bit.
He turns to the streets, searching for fights. It doesn’t matter who: vigilantes, Ember, the authorities. He will take down everyone in his path. Every small choice can have a butterfly effect.
The smallest shift in word usage can change the meaning of a sentence drastically. The smallest change in demeanor or posture warps the way a person can view you. A gut feeling, a curiosity, a small action; the smallest flutter of a butterfly’s wings can lead to a typhoon.
In the universe you know, Seraphina destroys UnOrdinary near instantaneously after discovering Elaine knows, or at the very least she learns from her first mistake and hides it better. In that universe, Remi is none the wiser to the vigilante turning, Authorities banned book in the Ace’s possession.
This is not that world.
TL;DR — the AU where the protagonists become vigilantes together, for better or worse.
