Set after "Blood Communion", we find our beloved Prince Lestat frustrated and increasingly uninterested in his new responsibilities. After years of service ruling from the Auvergne Castle, he grows melancholic believing that his old days of chaos and adventure are truly finished. Desperately seeking any kind of meaning, even his beloved Louis cannot ease Lestat's troubled mind. In an attempt to channel Lestat's better nature, Louis encourages Lestat to help a fledgling who has been trying to seek an Audience with the Prince for weeks. The fledgling wishes to report a Crime committed by another of their Kind.
The fledgling's tale sets in motion tumultuous events that scare Prince Lestat, Armand himself, and much of the Court. Bad habits, old rules, unspoken taboos, and former zealous factions are resurfacing making it clear that old ways are far more difficult to eradicate than previously thought.

Unable to find rest with his little coven, he takes to speaking with Marius, whom he feels shares some similar emotions in relation to the original Queen of the Damned.
Along the way, he makes peace with the loss of Sevraine, and tries to remind vampires who were affected, directly and indirectly, by her whims, of how lucky they are that Akasha is no more.

However, thematically, there was so much a missed opportunity in actually seeing many of our favourite characters still existing in the aftermath of maybe as little as a decade still scrambling with the grief and loss and so many abruptly silenced minds...
But then the tension begins to build again.
Slowly, at first. Disconnected fragments across the continents of the world.
Because it's not like these immortals have ever been the best at communicating directly.
