Summary
Dream was the guardian of positivity, and Nightmare was the guardian of negativity. They were two sides of the same coin. So then why did Dream feel so...useless? Why was he even made to be the guardian of positivity when there were probably so many better options than him?
After a fight with Nightmare leading to a wounded Dream, he finds himself in his old Au, Dreamtale, and makes a wish to his mother to choose a better guardian.
Wait...why were there other skeletons here? And why did they look like...him?

He was just doing his job as Guardian. Was it too much to ask for the minimal respect they gave his twin? Nightmare didn't think so. Still, he never understood the villagers' logic for the two of them.
It didn't help that he had to experience all the negative feelings —turned into actions— against him firsthand. Nightmare was just a child when his whole life fell apart one day. One miserable day.
He wasn't needed there, and certainly not here in their home —with everyone singing Dream's praises—.
Nightmare couldn't take it anymore; he felt like he was losing himself. His Mother also knew he was losing himself.

Reality explores and learns about his multiverse and the damage Shattered has done to it and attempts to save it, while Shattered continues his efforts to stop Reality and get him encased in stone again. The two of them make allies and enemies, Reality making friends and becoming part of a found family while Shattered follows in Nightmare's footsteps and manipulates his allies into thinking he cares for them. Traumas are experienced, friendships are strained, loyalties are tested, and deaths are witnessed and grieved for. It's an emotional rollercoaster, so be prepared for what happens, as it's not for the faint of heart.
