Dan hesitated, his breath catching in his throat. His feet felt like lead, rooted to the floor. He turned toward the door but didn’t move, his mind warring with itself. Dan closed his eyes, his hands shaking. He hated Herbert in that moment—hated how much he needed him, how much he couldn’t bring himself to walk away. Without a word, he sank into the chair near the wall, burying his face in his hands as Herbert continued to work, the faint sound of stitching filling the silence between them.

Dan’s pulse quickened. He could smell it—the blood, so close, the scent of it filling his nostrils, making his mouth water. His fangs ached, his claws flexed involuntarily, and the wolf inside him growled in hunger. But this wasn’t just about blood. No, this was deeper. This was about possession, about need, about instincts that had been suppressed for far too long.
“I can’t control it,” Daniel said through gritted teeth, his eyes pleading as he took another step back, but his body betrayed him, leaning forward, drawn to Herbert’s presence like a moth to flame.
Herbert’s gaze never wavered, cool and calculating. “I’m not asking you to.”
