Summary
Everyone loves to say that all the crazy stuff started when Neptune asked “Why does Saturn have rings?” Although it’s fair to believe that, I don’t think we can really blame Neptune. He wasn’t trying to cause anything, was just curious. There was nothing malicious, but there was someone who did… Earth. When he met Titan, he got self-conscious, and said “Moons should know their place”, which would lead to Titan and co starting the moon revolution, moon club, system trials, Planet X, Theia, ect. But what if… he never said that? Would the tensions already around the moons still cause a revolution? Would Planet X ever return to the solar system? Would Earth face the memories of Proto and Theia? If so, how would they change? Here is my take.

Triton has been content exploring the galaxy, never staying in one place for too long lest he get trapped there. But when there's that oh-so-familiar tug of a planets gravity, he's unable to escape it's grasp and is stuck with the blue giant (what was his name? Scotus?)

When Triton hits his 2 billion years mark, he discovers something horrifying. Strings that bind him to others.
One blue.

He hated them.
He tried cutting them, again and again, until his arm bled. No matter how many times he tries to cut them, they always mend and return. And he’s starting to wonder if he’s trapped not by gravity, but by fate itself.
Triton never wanted this.
Not Neptune’s gravity.
Not the responsibility.
Not the bonds that refuse to die.
But the universe doesn’t care what he wants; or The Universe Has a Sick Sense of Humor.

"Look, I know this situation will take some getting used to." She softly spoke, turning around so she could face all the old Uranian moons at once. Miranda was trying to soothe Cupid and Belinda, who seemed close to tears. Even Perdita was clumsily patting their backs, though her eyes remained on Titania when she spoke. What? "But we're safe finally! We don't need to hide, we are planets!"
"You are planets." Puck's voice was harsh in a way Titania hadn't heard before, catching her off guard. His expression softened when she looked at him, however, causing his posture to relax. "We don't meet the criteria."
"What- sure you do!" She blinked away her surprise. Where was this coming from? Had someone picked on them? Oh, it was Titan, she knew it was. The second-biggest moo- planet was way too loyal sometimes. He really should stop sticking his nose in other people's business. "You orbit the Sun! That makes you a planet by default!"

Triton was in constant pain. Everything felt like shit; and he didn't know where the pain ended and when it stopped. If anything, it felt like it hadn't stopped. Roots were constantly sprouting out of him, practically choking him if it weren't for Cyst tearing them out.
He didn't know If Cyst was doing that for fun—but it somewhat helped, if Triton ignored how painful it was. He had given up long ago trying to stop the pain. Nothing helped.

Earth wasn't so sure if this idea he proposed was a good one anymore.
In hindsight, it had seemed like the perfect plan- Sun was angry and wanted everyone to remain in their orbits, but everyone else got too lonely, or bored, or was too far and started losing it. So Earth had suggested using one of the many brilliant inventions his beloved Earthlings had created to fight the boredom until Sun came back to his senses.
"Yes, we are a team indeed! So how about we stop shouting, Sun, and let Earth explain his funny rectangle device?"
"No, Saturn-" Earth groaned, rubbing two fingers between his eyes to fight the growing headache. "Not us, the app we're using is called Microsoft Teams. Its an app that lets you talk to people who are far away."

With everyone forcefully locked in their orbits, Earth proposes to use one of his Earthling devices to be able to keep communicating!

But sixteen, sleeping angels were attached to him and his all-consuming gravity right now, leaving him unable to escape into the kuiper belt. And Neptune would never let his moons see that.
...He wasn't even alone, so why was he so upset about being alone?
Neptune pressed the back of his hand to his eyes, trying to stifle the quiet sob that followed next- but it came anyway. A shaky, breathy gasp followed, causing him the hand in his hair to move back to his mouth again. He tried to breathe through it, tried to stop, stop before his moons actually wake- but his stupid brain refused to listen, as always.
Quiet tears stained his sleeves, but at least he made no sound. At least, Neptune thought, he did that right.
Until... a tiny, impossibly small, delicate body pressed itself against the back of his neck.
And Neptune froze.

Triton felt like he was dying. He felt like his core was being ripped apart— No, who was he kidding? He had been ripped apart many times he lost count. All he felt was pain. Stars, why him? Why not anyone else? He was trying to be strong for the others, trying not to get this— torture get to him. Was it working? No, not at all.
Everything was a blur of pain— he let out a choked sob as he felt his back being pressed against something. Triton was too tired to scream. No one could've heard him anyway.
