Steve had felt it in his gut. Not at first. No, they seemed normal enough at first. Young, sure, but nothing visibly wrong. The cracks hadn't shown then. Really, they hadn't shown for a solid couple months.
The first time they appeared was a sort of 'all hands on deck' situation of a fight; aliens looking to spill blood throughout the city. Every lent help that could come did come, so two new faces hadn't been too much to bat an eye at. It was sort of assumed they were agents from a growing list of new organizations; possibly just in the area and deciding they needed to jump in. They had fought then left without a word. Nothing to bring suspicion. Nothing different than most.
But now, it looked more like that was the test drive of putting them into action.
