A "what-if" scenario involving Ruby's silver eyes. While waiting for Amity Tower to be complete, Ironwood has a plan to unlock the full potential of the powers within silver-eyed warriors. Reluctantly, Team RWBY goes along with it, seeing no other option.
Of course, things never work out how you think they will, and Weiss Schnee is so tired of the universe proving this fact to her.
Betrayal is not something to be taken lightly. Especially when the person who betrays you is your own sister.
Set during Volume 7. WR is not established yet, Bees are being Bees, Ironwood is an asshole and Winter is not who Weiss thinks she is.

Weiss Schnee is in love with Ruby Rose. That's a fact, as much as she once would've liked to say it's not. But, now? They've gotten closer and closer, and Weiss really starts to think that she may have a chance...
And then they arrive in Atlas.
Soon, Ruby is being pulled in so many directions that not one of them leads her to her partner. Initially that's fine, Ruby's needed elsewhere, after all, but then... Then it gets worse to the point of weeks going by without them so much as exchanging a sideways glance let alone words. And then Ruby starts to pay a lot more of her attention elsewhere... Weiss isn't jealous, she's not! ...But... She can't deny the pain in her chest, growing and festering with every waking moment she comes closer and closer to the conclusion that Ruby doesn't like her, not in the same way at least. She figured the pain was emotional, not physical, but...A blossoming blood red rose would say otherwise.

Blake shivered, curling in on herself and rubbing at her arms in a futile attempt to create some warmth. In retrospect, volunteering to go and check out the cave where they’d been tipped off about some unusual Grimm activity in the middle of a snowstorm hadn’t been one of her brighter ideas, but at the time she would have done absolutely anything for the chance to get out of Atlas even if it was only briefly.
“Blake, you okay?”
At least Yang was with her, though. Her partner’s voice was filled with concern, and she could sense the movement as Yang shifted a little closer even with her chin tucked against her chest to try and conserve the little body heat she had left. She tensed for a moment as an arm wrapped around her shoulders, but her body relaxed instinctively as it recognised Yang’s touch, and she let out a sigh of relief as she felt the faintest hint of warmth start to seep back into her bones.

Sometimes, it was easy to forget that Ruby was the youngest of their group. She was a leader, a genius weapon-smith, and an excellent mediator. JNR had chosen to follow her not only for revenge against Cinder, but because they believed in her desire to fight to make the world better. WBY stuck with her because there was no where else in the world they’d rather be than by her side. They all looked to her to tell them what to do, to forge the path ahead, to guide the next arc in their plan. It was far too easy to forget that she was just a child struggling as much as they were, maybe even more so. Carrying the weight of her friends and the world on her shoulders. It had to be exhausting, but she never showed it.
Masks, however, always had a way of coming off in more ways than one.
