Hannibal knew that W.G., William Graham, born in 1976, was a creature of habit, he took his two cups of coffee at five in the afternoon, just when the clientele was waning, so he could have the corner table beside the power outlet. Hannibal drove an hour and a half to model for money he did not need, for prey he didn’t have to make any effort to catch, in the end, it's for the performance of it all. He slipped into the role of Will’s boy, who looked him in the eyes when most people avoided him and the widespread radius of awkwardness he brought with him. That’s what Hannibal needs him to see.
...More like, Hannibal Lecter is a part-time model for a life drawing class when he isn't back at Hopkins, and Will Graham is the former detective that always clung too fast, too deeply.

The man had followed. Will darted forward, running into the unknown. How the man could run so quickly with his ragged boots untied was beyond him. He just kept coming. Will ran through street after street, past empty, collapsing houses, through more barren yards, past garage doors sporting spray painted sheets bearing farewell wishes to loved ones that would never make it home. He ran past groups of solemn, gaunt worshippers holding vigil in their front yards and Will had to squint to read their picket signs declaring ‘JESUS LOVES YOU’ and ‘THE SON IS COMING.’
Someone was coming, that’s for sure. Will was almost entirely sure that Jesus wasn’t a manic, half-nude lunatic chasing after him wearing nothing but boots and cutoff shorts. Perhaps Jesus would come for the numerous bodies littering the streets. He sure as hell wouldn’t come for Will.

Уилл не стал отдёргиваться, но, снова коснувшись чего-то скользкого (скорее всего, он задел указательным пальцем лёгкое), всё-таки вытащил кисть, явно повредив при этом какие-то внутренние ткани.
Его пальцы были слишком длинными, плечи — непривычно широкими, и он не чувствовал на лбу своей чёлки. Уилл посмотрел вниз, но не увидел ни единой полоски голой кожи — всё закрывал надетый на нём пластиковый костюм.
