The trauma is only fueled by the past experiences with her parents and bullies at school, and her ritualistic self-calming can no longer hold down the growing panic and fear that she is at fault for not only her past but also what happened at the Idol Awards. Fortunately, Rumi and Mira will do anything and everything to comfort their maknae.

And then there was the autism.
The latest diagnosis in her collection of diagnoses. It was…unexpected. But in the way unexpected was a tape recorder that contained a montage of your childhood that explained exactly why you became the way you are. It was a revelation that she didn't knew she needed.
It didn't make things easier. A medical diagnosis was still a medical diagnosis, and she couldn't erase years of being shoved in school lockers and getting her Sunlight Sister magazines ripped to shreds in front of her, but it had given her options.
It was harder to find community offline, but luck always seemed to be by her side in one way or another.
"That does make a lot of sense," Zoey muttered, getting on her tiptoes to look over Mira's shoulders and at the diagnosis papers in her hands.
Mira huffed. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Rumi could feel her eyes beginning to fix on the ceiling, her hands awkwardly scrunching the bedsheets around her just so there was something to do, but she could already tell it wasn't enough - not nearly - her breath already shallowing as her mind began to race freely. The familiar anxiety began to set in, curling up through her chest and lungs like smoke - the fear of being alone with her thoughts only compounding the issue - but it wasn't that she was - alone - not really, but she was, that there was nothing to stop her, to save her - the knowledge her phone was right there burned into her mind - if she could just reach it and call for help but she couldn't because it was too far and it was too much and -
The distant click of the flat door opening - followed promptly by the filtered voices of Zoey and Mira. Rumi could feel herself breathe. Properly - just for a moment - but the pressure building in her chest - the smoke burning her system - released slightly.
She blinked.

Rumi couldn't think of the last time she'd seen anybody with them. Her eyes were pulled back into Zoey's orbit: to her flushed face, the way her neck kept caving in, how rapidly her body was bouncing, and her stomach spasming openly under her crop top, all the while flapping her hands with embarrassment and squeaking over and over again.
It had been years since Rumi had seen anyone with them. Were they always this distracting?
