EDIT: Finally done
Hotch didn't bond at the usual age, never got summoned. Somewhere in the back of his mind he always knew bonding was a possibility, but after so many years of being by himself, it started to seem like less and less likely. He preferred it that way, being unmated.
That's why it came as a shock and a nuisance when he got his letter in the mail at the age of thirty-seven saying the Council found his mate. Just great.

“Oh.” That explained quite a bit. Scientists had studied Alphas and Omegas since the creation of science. They had even studied Betas. But no one had ever been able to explain why the odds of a Beta woman carrying the child of an Alpha to term was less than one in a million. If Hotch and Haley were actively trying to conceive, they were either failing repeatedly or the woman had suffered at least one miscarriage. Spencer shifted from foot to foot unsure what to say. He finally broke the tense silence. “I’m sorry.”
“We’ve lost five babies. She wants to try a surrogate now."

Percy Jackson was nervous as well. The first time he had met those three old ladies was in a bus stop in New York, with Grover. At first, he was clueless to why the Fates would show himself, cutting a yarn that looks like it belonged to him- only it didn't. The second time was in Mount Olympus, when the Fates were carrying Luke Castellan's body away from them.
"What do they want?", Percy asks with wide eyes.
"I also don't know", Annabeth replies. "But it must be something reasonable, if we, Thalia were chosen, along with some other campers."
