Rin and Makoto have both been pining after Haruka, while the object of their affections has been feigning obliviousness. One day, perhaps after Rin has once again hurt Haru's feelings, Makoto believes it's time to confront him. A fight ensues with the two bickering over which of them is better for Haru. While each are equally passionate about their points, Makoto ends up having more and better points as to why he deserves to date Haru, pointing out Rin's abandonment of them as well as his personality change as reasons why Rin could never truly keep Haru happy. Although it is not his intention, Makoto's accusations bring Rin to tears and the redhead runs off.
Cue Haru, stumbling upon Rin who is curled up and crying just as Haru saw him years ago. Haru is once again overcome by the impulse to comfort him and, this time, it works. Rin reveals what happened, crying and apologizing for the things he had never understood hurt Haru. Haru decides in his own indifferent way to make his feelings clear. It doesn't really matter who 'deserves' him the most, as Haru has always loved Rin.

Summary
Ten years have passed since Nezumi left No. 6 at his back. Clearly the best way to make Rin and Haru work out their issues is to lock them in a closet after the prefectural relay. Clearly.
'“Makoto didn’t hurt you when he threw you in here, did he?”
Rin snorted. “Makoto couldn’t hurt a fly.” That guy hadn’t changed a bit in four years. Actually, now that he thought of it, none of them had, and maybe that was the problem. Haru was still more interested in water than people, Makoto was still too damn sweet and selfless for his own good, and Nagisa still behaved like he’d drunk six cups of coffee and chased them with a handful of amphetamines. They expected Rin to be the same dopey, clingy, obnoxiously idealistic kid he’d been in sixth grade and didn’t understand that he had moved on, left that stupid boy behind to win last place at every race. There was no room for sentimental crybabies in the Olympics. Unlike the rest of them, he’d actually grown up, which made all the more pathetic the fact that he was standing here crossing and uncrossing his legs and trying not to think about how screwed he was if his bladder popped like an overinflated balloon.'
