Summary
Ellie Miller has spent twenty years building a life she can stand. She produces records in Nashville, owns a condo, and has her name tucked into liner notes. Her routine is set: late nights in the studio, crowded music halls, and just enough distance from Silverlake to pretend it never really mattered.
Then one call pulls her home to where she’s needed, back into the town she gave up on long ago. Silverlake is waiting with the gym she refuses to walk into, the twenty-year reunion emails she keeps deleting, and the people she has avoided for more than half her life. Most of all Dina, the ghost she has never been able to outrun. Will Ellie discover that not everything in Silverlake was what it seemed, and that even broken bonds can be mended into something stronger than before?

Summary
She didn’t notice her until most of the people unfortunate enough to be standing, moved. Floods of people got off and on at each stop. More than she’d thought possible. She hadn’t thought this many people rode this line through Seattle, avoiding most tourist destinations. There was so many people she had never seen, and she cursed herself again for living in such a huge city. If she could have an entire town to herself, she would. Then, she saw her. For once she thanked the universe for living in such a city. This girl sitting in a seat on the other side of the bus, was holding a small baby in her arms. Hanging off of her right shoulder was what looked most likely like a diaper bag, containing needed supplies for the baby sleeping nestled in the elbow of her left arm.

Summary
“You know…” says the woman lightly, swirling her drink, “usually when someone buys you a drink, the typical response is ‘thank you.’” She keeps her eyes off of Ellie, a half-smile brewing on perfect lips. A tease. Bait.
“Oh,” Ellie says intelligently, before clearing their throat, “Right, uh. Th-Thank you.” And then, “S-Sorry.”
“I’ll forgive you, but just this once.” The woman turns to them then, smiling fully and brightly. Ellie smiles back, practically against their own will. “I saw you from across the bar. You looked like you could use some company.”
“Am I that obvious?” Ellie asks sheepishly.
“Only a little,” the woman says with a little shrug and wrinkle in her nose that suggests to Ellie that’s not quite true.
--
After a long and exhausting work week, Ellie gets dragged to the dyke bar by Cat, and goes home with a girl that buys her drink.
(or, Ellie and Dina (attempt to) have a one-night stand.)
