Owen’s eyes darken with something that looks a lot like violence, and somehow that's easier to see than the tender affection he carried before. This is how it’s supposed to be. There’s no mask for Owen’s true intentions, no way for Curt to delude himself into thinking that maybe, possibly there’s a chance for them to be together again.

Your little Vanya. You recall, with perfect accuracy, the day you bestowed her the name, along with the rest of the children, and the way her eyes lit up with rare joy, and underneath that, surprise. Surprise at being included.
You never wanted to be a bad mother.

Klaus isn’t sure what drives his next movement. He had never been particularly brave or self-sacrificing – usually leaving those stupid heroics to Luther or Diego. But he is suddenly on his feet and stepping in between the detective and the hitwoman as she pulls the trigger.
Klaus staggers back, feeling the impact of the bullet like a punch to the chest.

Klaus’s rescue from Hazel and Cha Cha plays out a little differently. Instead of escaping through the vent and disappearing into the past, Klaus takes the bullet meant for Detective Patch and bleeds out on the motel floor. The thing is, he doesn’t stay dead.
Cue, afterlife epiphanies, surprise revivals, and Diego & Ben being mother hens.

Klaus is interrupted as the door bangs open, and familiar footsteps hurry towards them. He can’t help but smile as Dave’s voice rings out, tension leaving his body, because this whole fucking day might be a painful mess, but Dave always seems to make things a little bit brighter.
“Klaus, darlin’, I got your message. S’everythin’ alr-”
“You,” Five snarls venomously, and Dave’s head swivels towards him, eyes wide in surprise.

Ch.2 is what I had written already, and a summary of how the story would have ended.****
“Come to the future with me.”Dave freezes, rearing back to look Klaus in the eyes, searching for something and- whatever it is, he seems to find it.
“You’re serious.”
“I am.”
The silence is a yawning, gaping thing that Klaus balances on the edge of, trying to hold steady, waiting.
And finally, after minutes or seconds or years, between one heartbeat and the next, Dave smiles, and it’s like the sun bracketing the stars, blinding and beautiful and all-consuming.
“Yes,” Dave breathes emphatically. “Fuckin’ hell, darlin’, but I ain’t ever wanted t’do anythin’ more.”

Fifty years in the future, or nine, or maybe a whole goddamn lifetime, Five Hargreeves holds a directive from the Handler in trembling fingers, pressing a hand to his bloodied, aching side as he reads aloud:
”Kill David Katz.”

It's a low blow, a horrible thing to think let alone say out loud and the last time he'd said it Ben tackled him out of his body in anger.
This time Ben shudders.
"I didn't–" he says, uncertain and shaky, a whisper of the boy drenched in blood peeking through. "I just wanted...you wouldn't listen."
("I didn't mean to," Six said, wide-eyed and shivering, hands hugging his stomach.)
Klaus hides the tears in the crook of Ben's neck and says, "I know."
Or, in which the bullet kills Five too, leading to a heart to heart between Four and Six and Klaus Immortality doesn't just extend to himself.

The voice sounds behind them suddenly, and all of them startle and whip around in synchronization.
“Klaus,” Luther hears himself say distantly. “You’re…here.”
Four tilts his head, bringing his hand to his lips and inhaling deeply around the cigarette dangling between his fingers. When he exhales, the smoke curls around his head like a halo before drifting into the air.
“Yeah, well, I would’ve gotten here sooner,” Four says around the cigarette. “But I just really didn’t want to.”

Number Four shows up to the funeral three hours late with an iced latte in one hand and a cigarette dangling from the other.
Or; Klaus fled the Academy the day they turned eighteen. He never looked back.
Ten years later, their father dies.
Number Four returns.And none of them quite know what to do with this new version of their black sheep brother.
AKA: Klaus single-handedly stops the apocalypse. It really wasn't that hard, so if everyone could stop looking at him like that, that would be great, thanks.
