Summary
Once they were around the corner and out of sight from the street, Majima slammed his back into a wall, fists balled in his lapels. Kiryu grunted as his head bounced off the rough concrete. He expected a punch to come next, or some smart-mouthed quip, but was entirely unprepared to see Majima staring down at him in anger, yes, but something else, too. Something he’d seen on full display the night before: a sharp, predatory hunger.
“Y’know,” Majima growled, “I got shit t’ do today. I’m a busy fuckin’ man. I got a family t’ run and deals t’ make an’ places t’ fuckin’ be but all I can think about, Kiryu-chan, is you.”
Started as a one shot, spiraled out of control. Follows the Yakuza Kiwami 1 plot for the most part. Mostly canon-compliant, some events have been added, moved, or changed for artistic license. Spoilers for Yakuza Kiwami 1 and some light spoilers for Yakuza 0.

To Daigo, Yoshitaka Mine should have been any other person to care for amongst the sea of thousands of Tojo Clan members. That expectation wouldn’t have diminished his importance, yet with so many lives to care for and look after, it wouldn't be hard to imagine keeping tabs on each individual person would be arduous, even for a man who cared so deeply as Daigo honestly did.
Yet in but a few short months, Mine had proved himself more than worthy of just being another member in the Tojo Clan: of course, every member had sworn their allegiance to Daigo when they initially joined, yet it was Mine who seemed to earnestly honor that sentimentality. Everything he did and everything he said screamed devotion, sometimes to a frightening extent.
Truly, that’s where the seed of Daigo’s affections began. Ensuring the chairman’s safety and the Tojo Clan's success was the bare minimum, yet how meticulous Mine had been about it all had felt more personal than out of obligation. In that, it was impossible for Daigo to ignore Mine’s care- nor could he ignore how the thought of it made his chest feel light.

Mine hoped he wasn't blushing, because he felt a suspicious warmth on his face.
“Mm. Shall we open that bottle tonight?”
He had nothing else to add, honestly. If Daigo already knew everything, the reason why he had prevented Shellac from closing was more than eloquent.

Summary
Kiryu’s eyebrows scrunch and his eyelids flutter. Majima watches him come awake slowly, well acquainted with the series of minute twitches and flinches and flexes that flit across his face as he comes out from under anesthesia; he emits an unaware grunt, right on schedule, and Majima can’t help how it tugs up the corners of his mouth. At least this was proceeding along as expected, unlike their ill-fated little date. Kiryu may be a chronically unlucky, accident-prone tangle of self-sacrifice and unexamined trauma… but he is also a creature of habit, which makes him comfortingly predictable to anyone who bothers to pay attention.
Five times Kiryu is just straight up not having a good time, plus one time that goes slightly better.

“Ya holdin’ up okay?” Majima asks as he settles next to him. Kiryu’s face heats beneath an emotion he won’t define, and before he realizes it, words are spilling out of him.
“I don’t know. I think so, mostly… But this—This week has been… long.” He sighs and rubs his stubbled jawline with a calloused palm, finally lets his stoicism yield to the weariness inside him. Majima lights a cigarette and hands it to him; he accepts it gratefully. After a few deep drags, he speaks again, “I’m good. Just… trying to figure out what to do about Morning Glory when we get back to Okinawa.” It’s less of a lie and more of a verbalized reminder to himself that there are more important issues at hand than the revelation stuffed back inside the folder on the table.
Kiryu's heritage reveals itself with uniquely terrible timing.
