Steven does everything in his power to help—they go to therapy, attend evening classes, all the while looking for a job and trying to reconnect with Layla—but it seems fruitless as Marc catches sight of a vigilante on the loose in London, firmly believing they are up against Khonshu’s next Avatar. They decide to investigate further, and in the blink of an eye they find themselves in an auction held in Paris, trying to obtain an ankh cross. The relic seems to be much more than the symbol of life—it is also the bringer of demons of the Egyptian underworld and of the past that should’ve stayed buried.

There was just so much damage.
Claw marks running down his plastron, a chip in his shell. His head was bruised badly but Donnie couldn't check for a concussion in this state, and there was a ring of marks around his neck that Donnie had patched up quick before they left April's. He was a mess of broken skin and bones and Donnie had never dealt with so much damage before. He didn't even know where to start.

Thump, thump, thump, sings the heart. It brings a small, shaky smile to Leo’s face – one that pulls at muscles long forgotten. He’s surprised they even know how to work after all this time.
Donnie, however, doesn’t seem to share his sense of elation. His eyes are wide, incredulous and disbelieving. A tremor goes up and down his hands, visible even this far away as an accusing finger locks on target.
‘What did you do?'"
Actions have consequences, and now Leonardo's paying the price. All he had ever wanted was for the pain to stop - for things to return to normal. Now that it has, he's about to realize just how much he has yet to learn.
Or: maybe messing around with your dead father's scrolls isn't such a good idea. It is, in fact, a Very Bad Idea.

Sometimes, people stray and become lost in the darkness, become lost in the suffering, plough even further into the pain when they think they're on the right path- only to find themselves even deeper into the tenebrous despair and become blind with anguish and grief, robbed of everything, crumbling and breaking until there is nothing left of them and they are beyond redemption.
Sadly, Leo is one of them.

Summary
It hadn’t gone so poorly at first. They were able to get into the building fine, just a small group of 8 including Leo. Donatello had gone over what they would need to do a thousand times. Leo knew all of the structural beams immediately. They were able to set the charges and exfiltrate without any suspicion. They even got so far as to detonate the charges and destroy the portal.
However, something unexpected happened.
