Jax’s voice quivered just a slight amount, “I don’t care what you told me to do. Not right now.” He couldn’t stop himself from talking, “Not right now, I- I need a minute. I need two at least.”

That’s his role. That’s all he should be. A shallow, sadistic asshole. And as long as that’s how the others view him, they’re in the safe zone.
Ragatha, Gangle and Zooble have all been in that zone for a while now. With how he treats them, they’d be kind of insane for thinking there’s more to him than just a trifling jackass. Kinger’s a step above (or below?) them, Jax doesn’t know what’s going on in that basketcase’s head but whatever it is, it means Jax can do basically whatever the hell he wants around him because Kinger’s just bound to forget it within five minutes.
And then Pomni’s the safest. The newbie, the clean slate Jax was immediately able to get off on the wrong foot with and just go downhill from there. The wide-eyed anxious mess that’s practically begging Jax to knock her down again. And again. And again.
Because that’s his job. Just being a shallow asshole.

“You know what? ƒμ©* it.” With a huff, Zooble yanked at the tablet in Ragatha’s hands, hard. Pomni caught how the little seams fixing Ragatha’s arms to her shoulders flexed, threatening to give way. She had to let go before Zooble ripped her forearms clean off. Zooble swiped through the tablet almost angrily as they muttered, “I don’t even know what you’re so pressed about. It’s not like your derby rider was that pretentious about – ”
Zooble cut themself off and went very, very silent.
Pomni’s mouth went dry. Dryer than it’d been even after a stress of time without real water. She watched, scared for a reason she couldn’t place, as both of Zooble’s detachable eyes widened. She could have sworn that their hot pink face turned almost salmon for a quick second before returning to its original shade. They set down the tablet and turned.
“Ragatha,” they said slowly, “why does the catalogue of NPCs include a mock-up of Jax?”

Tim could remember being six years old, stuck in the bathroom, hands dripping wet and panicking, because of three rules.One, he could not spill anything on the carpet, even water. This meant he could not leave the bathroom until his hands were dry.
Two, he could not use the display towels to dry his hands. They were for looking. Not using. This was a problem because they were the only towels in the bathroom.
Three, hands were never to be wiped on clothes. It was dirty and ‘plebeian’ to do that. Two things a Drake heir could never be.

It took Tim a while to realize that his time with Joker stuck with him in more ways than one.
Of course, there was the obvious. The scars on his cheeks, the green hair, the chemically dyed skin. Those were things that everyone noticed. The things that Tim could tell everyone tried not to stare at.
Then there were more subtle things. The days where Tim didn’t feel like Tim. The days where he swore there was a voice in his head that sounded just like Joker Junior.
He tried to ignore it for a while. Told himself it was just the remnants of the psychological trauma induced by his time with the Joker.
But the voice didn’t go away, and the longer Tim tried to ignore it, the crazier he felt.
