Fig ignored her and turned back to Adaine who had gone back to her food, casually munching on her sandwich.
“So? Thoughts about a cute nerdy guy checking you out?”
Adaine chewed and slowly swallowed.
“Well… so?"
“So?” Fig was borderline flabbergasted, which was a good word that she didn’t get to use enough to describe her mood in her opinion, “He’s into you?”
“Huh.” Adaine said, taking a swig of water. “So?”

Adaine Abernant was broken.
I mean, that was the only explanation wasn’t it? That was the only reason she felt so empty, so alone. She had a family, a family which never actually did anything bad to her. But still, she felt like she had no one.
Figueroth formerly Faeth was a monster.
She was reminded of that every time her Dad looked at her with something bordering on hatred, or when her mom looked at her with guilt, or when her friends pointed and whispered behind her back, since her horns came in it felt like she had no one.
When Fig finds a message in a bottle which Adaine had thrown from the shore of Fallinel perhaps they both find someone.

In any case, one minute Kipperlilly’s launching through the air across an inlet of lava, intent on landing on the other side completely unharmed— the next, she’s skidding across a screechy, familiar floor, and the press of hot air against her face is replaced with the cooling breeze of a badly-tuned air-conditioning unit, and when she finally digs her heels into the ground and looks up, she meets the gazes of six people she very much did not miss.

“Probably from school, it is flu season after all,” Adam says, giving Beetlejuice a strange look.
“Shit, shit!” Beetlejuice says, pulling at his hair, which is flickering between red and purple at an impressive rate. “I’m going to burn down that fucking school!” He shouts. Barbara shoots him a withering glare and shushes him, gesturing to Lydia, who began making small noises of discomfort when Beetlejuice began shouting. He stares at her for a few seconds. She looks tiny in her overlarge pajamas, hair plastered to her forehead with sweat. She looks young in a way Beetlejuice often forgets she is. It isn't exactly like he spends a lot of time with teenagers. Most people he had known when he was alive died by the time they reached sixteen.
Lydia is fifteen.
Or, when Lydia comes down with a bad case of the flu, Beetlejuice is reminded of how sickness ravaged children when he was alive. He hasn't exactly been kept up to date on modern medicine, so he assumes the worst.
