There’s the scent of something sour on the wind.
It’s like fear - sweat and rancid sugar - along with something else that Ingo can’t quite place, something almost like faint rot, sickness in the hot summer sun. He takes a step further outside his humble home and nearly gags.
Slapping a hand over his mouth and nose, Ingo feels the hairs at the base of his neck standing on end. He recognizes it now: an omega’s heat, botched and reeking with anxiety, a pheromonal cry of distress, one meant to summon help and frighten off ill-minded pursuers. It’s a specific kind of scent, too, one that has his skin prickling with dread.
‘Young,’ something in him whispers.
‘Too young. Adolescent.’
‘Protect. Protect. PROTECT.’
He’s already running before he fully realizes he’s started. -

He stands on one end of the red-washed roof beneath a sky of blood and onyx and watches himself watch back from the other side.
“I’m fine,” he whispers to the figure across from him.
It shakes its head and sobs. “No,” it answers with two voices – layered over top each other in perfect stereo, one low and one high-pitched. It looks at him with eyes the color of sickness, gold and harsh against the pale, flickering silver of its hair.
“No, I’m NOT!”

He takes you on missions with him, has you follow him around as he instructs you how to summon your weapon on command, how to control the lesser Nobodies, and all the while he watches you with an appraising eye. You know that he’s assessing you, know that he’s both teaching you how to fight and also reporting back to Saix about your progress. You have no doubt you'll be disposed of should you turn out to be a waste of time, so you listen closely to what Axel tells you and make sure he has something favorable to say about you at the end of the day.

“Uhm. All day?” Souji tilts his head, expression darkening, closing off, and his arms rise just slightly – likely unconsciously – as if making to cover himself, to hide. He frowns and his eyes turn to steel. “Why?”
It clicks. It clicks in the worst way possible and Yosuke’s breath leaves him like he’s been punched. “You wore that inside the tv,” he accuses, a realization, not a question. “You fought in that. Souji, you fought in your binder?!”
