Some of it intentional, much is not. Twin annoyances dogging his steps; a shield protecting him from the consequences of the choices he cannot bring himself to regret.
In truth some nights Qǐrén cannot help but wonder: what use are the strictures he so clings to, here? Here where there is nothing at all but the remnants of his pride and the cold night.
