He drew the dagger back, and then brought it forward.

Grian leapt into the air, wings snapping out behind him to push past gravity and send him soaring. Grinning, he did a few tricks, looping and rolling, diving and twirling around.
“Coming up with a new dance routine, up there?” Glancing down towards the yell, Grian slowed to a glide, a bit breathless.
“Maybe. What are you doing up here, Scar? I thought you were working on your sanctuary?”
Scar was too far below for Grian to properly see his reaction, but he seemed to deflate a little at the innocent question. “Ah, I was just curious! You looked like you were having fun, is all. I also have something for you.”

Scar short-circuits, heat rushing to his face. Being called his mate almost awakened some deep rooted Vex instinct he has, his body singing for his mate. Though, he forgot Grian would eventually have a heat, since he can only recall it mentioned once, under the covers as they dozed off after a long day.

Summary
This current situation resulted from something of an obsession Scar had acquired in the past week. They’d happened upon a wandering trader whilst scouting out some resources, who’d been willing to trade emeralds for a sachet of dried yeast, of all the things. Scar had proceeded with the trade almost immediately and had been virtually vibrating with excitement at the concept of baking actual bread. Grian had been surprised that he hadn’t come back from an evening lookout to find bread laid out already: impulse control not being a strong suit of those no longer green. But Scar, despite his obvious anticipation, had been waiting for something, and apparently that something was now.

Grian got lost and separated from his guild and was attacked by zombies when a stranger saved him. A life saved is a debt owed, and the last time someone rescued him from certain death, it didn't end well.
