Summary
Pain is relative to the individual. That's something James understands unless the pain is his.
In his mind, where he harbors deep resentment in himself for his ignorance regarding the situation with Delphini, the pain he feels is justified. Atonement for his inability to protect Albus, and his inadequacy as a brother.
The process of those thoughts validates his belief that every ounce of pain he receives is deserved, but as he indulges himself in those vices of abuse, it doesn't occur to him that his mental decay is more obvious to those around him than he realizes.

Summary
Albus and Scorpius are finally allowed to visit each other over the holidays, given that their parents seem to have calmed down (something to do with their Very Eventful year in school putting things in perspective). So, Scorpius spends a week at the Potters', which Albus is ridiculously excited for, and has meticulously planned out; he can't wait for his madhouse of a family to get to know Scorpius. One thing Albus didn't plan for, however, was developing feelings for Scorpius in the process.

They’re dating, but a rivalry between their dads that goes back to their high school years is what keeps them from telling everyone. That being said, their goal is to tell everyone before prom – that way the two boys can go together and slow dance to all the cheesy love songs they want. So, with just about 9 months until prom the two try to think of the best way to tell everyone about their relationship – and try to not cause an uproar in the midst of it all.
