Summary

Two Apothecaries live their peaceful lives downriver, unknowing of the betrayal happening far upstream, but that betrayal changes their lives nonetheless. Zeph is taken away against his will, and his friend must cooperate with a prickly thief to get him back. The journey is long, however, and there are plenty of people to meet along the way.

For all the affection between them, their relationship still hovered around a hazy line of commitment. Edelgard had expressed in no uncertain terms that she was in love, but Dorothea still found herself sorting through her own emotions on the matter. She could catch fleeting feelings, like the one that had just surfaced, but never enough to commit to those three words she seemed to fear. Dorothea still couldn’t help herself from expressing those feelings out loud, if only to make sure she finally wasn’t dreaming that she had someone to say them to and truly mean it. She could only hope and pray that Edelgard would not see them as insincere.
