Summary
From doodles to sketches to full-page drawings, he finds his own face in Geralt’s notebook over and over again. He plays his lute, or sings. He leans against a tree. In a couple, he’s asleep - and those make a painful ache flare in his chest.
Geralt gets hurt. Jaskier is forced to look in his notebook to find out how he can help him - something he promised himself he wouldn't do. What he finds in there - dozens of sketches of his own face - makes him wonder how Geralt really feels about him.

“Because, I—I can’t help it,” Jaskier said and even over the rushing of the wind, Geralt could hear his heartbeat quicken. “I love you, Geralt. I have for so, so long. Thought you should know.”
Geralt’s eyes widened. He turned back—shock beating out his anger. He met Jaskier’s gaze and it hurt to see the tears streaming down his face. For a moment, Geralt thought he must have heard wrong. How could Jaskier love him? How could he say that right after Geralt told him he wanted to be rid of him? Too startled to say anything, silence hung heavy between them. Only the sound of rushing wind and his own pounding heart filled Geralt’s ears.
When Geralt tells Jaskier he wants nothing more than to be rid of him, he's startled when Jaskier confesses that he has loved him for years. Unable to say anything back, Geralt thinks about that moment over and over again until he and Ciri run into Jaskier again in Ard Carraigh. Either he needs to finally voice thoughts he's kept hidden for years or risk losing Jaskier forever.

“Ellander was twenty-seven years ago,” Geralt states and watches as Jaskier’s eyes become round like bells.
“Holy—has it really been that long?” Jaskier stares up at Geralt, huffing unbelievingly. “It feels like yesterday that I met you in that horrible, horrible tavern.”
“That was exactly thirty years ago. That’s how time works, Jask.” A strand of hair is getting close to the bard’s eyes, so Geralt brushes it away, revealing silver streaks that are growing more obvious each day.

There’s a hand cupping his cheek, rubbing over the days-old stubble there, and another resting on the nape of his neck. Though he’s never been so close to these too-gentle hands, the calluses are familiar, born from years of sword-wielding, manual labor, and a cruel world. The lips against his are vaguely familiar too, though surprisingly soft, and they taste of mead and roast pheasant and opportunity.
Jaskier pushes him away and tries to calm the desperate thrumming of his bleeding heart.

He's paining after Geralt and matters only get worse when one of the dwarves asks him to play a song he wrote right after their fight on the mountain. The song makes him emotional. The snow is melting, but Geralt fusses, tightening Jaskier’s coat over and over again, to the point that his hands have to be batted away. The warmth that spreads to Jaskier’s fingertips almost feels like love. For a moment, he thinks that alone can replace all the emptiness in his chest.

Summary
The next day comes around and, when they come across a village at a crossroad, Jaskier books himself a night in the inn and Geralt continues North. Jaskier doesn’t ask if they’ll see one another again. He knows, deep in his bones with a certainty far beyond his years, that the answer is yes.
It is not until he is bathing that evening that he realises why the answer is yes.
He’s so used to the occasional ink splattering on his skin that needs washing off, that he doesn’t even note the words in block cursive travelling up his thigh for what they are for a good moment. Instead, he rubs absently at them with his small bar of soap, waiting for them to dissipate from his skin.
They do not.
He blinks.
Blinks again.
Shit.
