“I tried to hate you.” Yaz said, shattering the silence in a moment formed when a passing sense of boldness aligned with her thoughts.
The Doctor looked up surprised. “Seems you didn’t try hard enough.” She retorted, deflecting reflexively at the slightest hint of emotion brewing despite all the progress they'd made.
“I tried to hate you cause it scares me.” Yaz confessed softly. “Because… I can’t ignore it. I can’t pretend I don’t feel differently about you than anyone else… I can’t pretend that I’m… that I’m not…”

Yaz has a passing moment of bravery alone with the Doctor in the console room one night which leads to them both acknowledging who Yaz has always been.
