Summary
Rex and Anakin were more than brothers in arms; a blood oath and an adoption vow done on some backwater planet. Anakin was the first to treat him as another sentient being, and Rex was the first to learn about Anakin Skywalker, son of Shemi Skywalker, and their culture. Rex never turned his back on his brother, following him into the endless abyss. In the end, Rex outlived Anakin, left behind with only his children, aging brothers, young clones who never served, nieces and nephews, both clone hybrids, and adopted nat borns.
Not once did his status as former commander of the 501st or owner of a small trading company, let alone the official records' changes from clone to trooper to Empire citizen, mean anything to those in power until they could use it to their advantage. The New Republic sends Rex and his family to the Mandalorians as political hostages to keep the peace with orders to aid the Mandalorians and help the young Dutchess of Mandalor adjust to her new life. Not that anyone knew Mandalorian adoptions also apply to elders. Never send a capable man with years of experience to Mandalor, especially if he brings his whole family of old gramps and young who will outlive them.
