And in that moment, a realization began to settle deep in his chest. He was still in love with Kirishima. The warmth beside him, the steady presence of someone who knew him better than anyone else, was all he needed to face the truth he’d been running from. He could still feel the thrum of his own heart, a rhythm that matched Kirishima’s. The old ache, the one he’d buried deep down, was still there, still pulsing with each breath he took.
But it was different now. There was no more running. He didn’t need to hide anymore, not from Kirishima, and certainly not from himself. The storm outside raged, but inside the room, everything was still, everything was safe. It didn’t matter what had happened in the past or how much time had passed. All that mattered was now, and now, with Kirishima beside him, it felt like maybe, just maybe, everything could work itself out.

Armin was drop dead gorgeous.
Tattooed and adorned with piercings. His pants fitted over his long legs and his shirt was graffiti-styled. What he wore was something comfortable, but his taste revealed his confident, carefree attitude. The built male flashed a grin, one that showed he was gentle and kind despite his appearance.
Jean looked like an edgy model.

Loneliness was easier.
Being alone around a hundred people was easier than thinking about anything. Better than thinking about soft skin or bright smiles. Lashes catching the final rays of the sun while laughter brightened the emptiness left by everyone else that he’d ever known. It was better than the simmering bitterness of watching someone else with him. He wasn’t enough.
He’d never have been enough.

Summary
Usually patient, Armin feels himself getting somewhat annoyed. Eren’s disappearance has already unsettled him, putting him on uneven footing. Jean’s inability to find words makes him feel worse; it’s unlike the other scout to speak without being sure of what he is about to say. It makes something within Armin crackle, like a titan just as it forms.
As if sensing his irritation— perhaps something in the air had changed— Jean finally manages, “Are you okay, Armin?”
