Summary
James Kovacs has never had a choice in his life. Born in the Yellow Zones, shoved into the mechanics trade by his parents, then impressed into service by the Varjagers- he sometimes thinks tumbleweeds have more choice than he does.
But when a convoy raid goes better than expected, another band of Varjagers turns on Kovacs’ group to claim all the loot for themselves. Evading the violence, Kovacs escapes into the yellow zone alone and unarmed- but in possession of a highly advanced T-Doll neural core.
He stumbles upon a derelict MBV with a deactivated T-Doll inside. Using the stolen core to activate the doll, he gains the fanatical loyalty of the A.I., HK416. So for the first time, Kovacs commands might and the freedom to use it as he sees fit.
But what to do with it? Kovacs had never really thought about it before. And his new T-doll reveals itself to be much more than a subservient machine…

Summary
The benefit of being close with your subordinates was that they were more receptive to praise. The negative aspect was that some got jealous when not praised enough, and took more... extreme methods.
