Summary
"Aiichiro-sama,” Tadashi protested before he could stop himself. Aiichiro’s eyes settled on him with furious intent.
"Do you have any complaints, Tadashi?" he demanded.
The silence lengthened, taut between the three of them. Tadashi knew what was expected of him, knew what he should be; dogs loyal to the Shindo family did not disobey, after all. And yet, when he saw the tense line of Ainosuke’s back, the words caught in his throat. If he said nothing now, then there would truly be no one by Ainosuke's side. A lifetime ago, he had found a lonely boy crying by the pool house. Tadashi hadn’t turned his back on him then — how could he choose differently now when it mattered just as much?

Summary
Kaoru wasn't always so cautious or a planner, but certain events throughout his life knocked the spontaneity right out of him and made him fearful of the unknown. He assumes that's why he's maintained his long-standing friendship with Kojiro, even if he was an obnoxious, thirsty gorilla most of the time. But recently, something's shifted between them, something Kaoru's never experienced before, and he's at a loss for how to respond to the changing circumstances.

“Not at all,” Antinous said, his smile reminding Telemachus that it was a stupid, stupid, idea to try and manipulate him, to give him so much as a finger, but the ship had left the harbour and there was no turning back. He needed the protection only Antinous was in a position to offer. “I could tell them off. For a… price, naturally.”
(Or: Telemachus manipulates Antinous into making a deal and must reap the consequences as he struggles to remain in control against someone who has plenty of tricks of his own.)
