Because he’s literally required to milk this situation, he takes care to pat her on the head on his way, and Amity gives an irritable huff in response. He’s still bringing the noodles down off the shelf when someone else starts speaking; an older woman from across the aisle.
“Aw,” she says, directing herself towards Amity. “The way you two bicker reminds me of my husband and I. How long have you been together?”

“I know - I get I was probably overwhelming you, so I’m sorry,” Willow says. “But you know what friends do actually do?”
The mask tilts slightly.
“Um,” Caleb says eloquently. “I don’t know. Different sports teams? More sports?”
“No,” Willow says, cutting him off before he can keep on saying something depressingly out of touch. “They help each other. I’m a plant witch! And I need a bit of lungflower too, so… we can work together to find it!”
“Why would you help me?” he asks. He sounds just as cutting as ever, but… confused.
“I mean,” Willow shrugs. “You’re my friend, aren’t you?”-
Willow has had a lot of friendships go sour over the years, and there's no reason for her not to think that her somewhat complicated feelings about the newest member of her flyer derby team won't end up the same way. A mission to retrieve a rare flower with said newest member might be just what she needs to figure out if staying friends with the Emperor's right-hand man is a good idea.

Hunter sucked in an unsteady breath, eyes wide as he looked at Gus. “You—you know.”
Gus could only nod.
Hunter jerked his hand out of Gus’s grip, standing up from the sofa and taking a stumbling step backwards. “H—how? How do you…?”
And he looked so scared, so unsure. So betrayed.
It was an expression that fit on Hunter’s face like a familiar glove. Gus had seen it so many times before.
And he knew what always followed it.
When Gus looked into Belos's mind he got a bit more than he bargained for. Who would have guessed that it was hard to look your friend in the eye when you had countless memories of killing them?

So when Mom reached for her, like she thought Luz was going to wisp into light again, Luz pulled back.Hunter sees Luz, the bravest person he’s ever had the misfortune to meet, force a smile and draw away from outstretched hands, sees her grip tighten where it’s hidden in Amity’s sleeve, and thinks- huh. Noted.
