The room next door is even worse, with its equipment all over the counters. It's the one he spends the most time in, and it shows. The one you're in is tidier—emptier—with clean tabletops and a couple of freezers and shelves. It's a place frozen in time—a storage room that people dip in and out of, never to stay.

Summary
There are two ways of getting isolated from one's world. Getting locked in, and getting locked out. In both cases, it's a change in one's environment.
What's been going on... Some call it rotting. Some call it thriving. Some say it's the same thing. And I, of all people, am expected to be able to tell the difference.
Great. That makes things so much simpler, doesn't it?
Current status: BEING REWRITTEN. Turns out, this is a multi-volume series, so it may take a while. The story happening in Karakura and the one with Lydia got separated into two different volumes. Currently working on Lydia's, which I will only be posting once it's finished. Sorry for the wait. But be aware that this universe of mine is NOT DISCONTINUED, and the writing is making steady, if somewhat slow, progress.

Or so Captain Ukitake says when he dispatches Ichigo and Rukia to the island on a mission. Their orders: Pose as the new lighthouse keeper and island caretaker, and find and dispatch the hollows.
Oh, and the coast guard will only hire a married couple.
